Mindfulness in the schoolyard - mindfulness breaks outdoors

The schoolyard is the perfect place to give yourself and your pupils a little mindfulness break. Mindful breaks outside in nature can help to clear the mind and recharge the batteries for lessons.

Why mindfulness breaks outdoors?

Fresh air and exercise not only promote physical health, but also mental recovery. Mindfulness exercises in the school playground help pupils and teachers to make conscious use of the break and reduce their stress levels. With a little practice, everyone gets used to mindfulness in the school playground and learns to use this new resource in a positive way.

Mindfulness in the schoolyard

  • Breathing exercises outdoors: Consciously breathe in fresh air and focus on your surroundings.

  • Mindful seeing: Asking students to focus on nature - the colours of the trees, the sky, the clouds.

  • Silent walks: Pupils can walk around the schoolyard in silence and sharpen their senses.

Benefits for pupils and teachers

These mindfulness breaks not only help the pupils to relax, but also offer teachers the opportunity to take a deep breath and collect themselves. This allows lessons to continue after the break in a more relaxed and focussed manner.

Use the school courtyard as a place for mindfulness

Use the school playground as an ideal place for small mindfulness exercises - a welcome break for pupils and teachers alike.
